Native to the hill forests of South and Southeast Asia, the Common Hill Mynah is a medium softbill weighing 200-260 grams with a lifespan of 12-25 years. Renowned as one of the best mimics in the entire bird world, it reproduces human speech with an uncanny, human-like tone, but as a softbill it has specialized dietary needs and produces copious, messy droppings that demand frequent cleaning. House mynahs in a large flight cage or aviary with room to hop and fly and sturdy perches. Their diet centers on low-iron softbill pellets, chopped fruit, and some insects; because mynahs are highly susceptible to iron storage disease, avoid iron-rich and citrus foods. They are intelligent, social, and messy eaters that need frequent cage cleaning and daily fresh water for drinking and bathing. Provide enrichment and interaction to satisfy their curiosity, and be prepared for a loud, whistling, talkative companion that thrives on engagement.
