Native to the forests of central South America, the Green-Cheeked Conure is a small parrot weighing just 60-80 grams yet living 20-30 years. Famous for being one of the quieter conures, it packs enormous personality into a compact body and forms devoted, cuddly bonds with its keeper, earning a reputation as an ideal beginner parrot. House a single bird in a cage at least 60cm wide with plenty of horizontal bars and rope perches for its acrobatic antics. Offer formulated pellets supplemented with fresh vegetables, sprouts, and small amounts of fruit, avoiding an all-seed diet that causes deficiency. These curious birds adore snuggling under fabric and require daily handling plus a rotating supply of foraging and chew toys. While not as loud as larger parrots, they can be nippy if under-stimulated, so consistent gentle training pays off.
