Native to western South America, the Pacific Parrotlet is a tiny parrot weighing barely 30-35 grams yet living 15-20 years. Bursting with confidence and personality, these miniature parrots act far larger than they are and can become very tame and even learn to talk when handled consistently from a young age. Despite their size, parrotlets need a cage at least 45cm wide with narrow bar spacing, plenty of toys, and room to be active. Feed formulated pellets with fresh vegetables, greens, and sprouts, avoiding a seed-heavy diet. They are quieter than most parrots, making them apartment-friendly, but they have a bold, sometimes nippy streak and can become aggressive toward other birds, so housing them individually is often safest. Daily interaction, training, and foraging enrichment keep these plucky little characters engaged, confident, and closely bonded to their keeper.
