The Pink Skunk Clownfish (Amphiprion perideraion) comes from the reefs of the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean, and reaches about 8 to 10 cm. It is named for the single narrow white stripe running from the head along the back, plus a thin white bar behind the eye. In the wild it associates mainly with the magnificent sea anemone, though captive-bred fish settle happily without any anemone at all. A pair is comfortable in a 100 litre or larger marine tank at 24-27C, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4, with rockwork and a calm corner to claim. Feed a rotation of mysis, enriched brine shrimp, marine pellets and a little algae-based food. This is the most timid of the commonly kept clownfish, so it should not share a tank with damsels or aggressive clowns such as maroons, which will bully it off its food. Captive-bred stock is widely available and adapts far better than wild-caught fish, which is the responsible choice here.
