The Amazon tree boa ranges widely across the Amazon basin and northern South America, living in rainforest trees and riverside vegetation. It is a lean, lightweight boa, usually 1.2 to 1.8 meters and well under a kilogram, living 15 to 20 years. Its color polymorphism is legendary, with clutch-mates spanning brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, and muted grays, making each animal unique. House this arboreal species in a tall, secure enclosure with plentiful horizontal perches and foliage. Maintain humidity of 60-80% with good ventilation, a daytime ambient near 27-29C, a basking perch around 31C, and a cooler night. Feed frozen-thawed rodents every one to two weeks with long tongs, as this boa is quick to strike. Amazon tree boas are notoriously defensive and not a handling species; they are best kept and enjoyed as beautiful, spirited display animals.
