Pearl danios are active, hardy shoaling fish closely related to the ubiquitous zebra danio, but with a more understated pearlescent sheen that glows beautifully under good lighting. They are undemanding and adaptable, tolerating a broad range of conditions from 68-78F, which makes them an excellent choice for beginners and for cooler community or subtropical setups. Like all danios they are strong, fast swimmers that need a group of at least six and plenty of horizontal swimming space; a longer tank suits them far better than a tall one. Their energetic darting can intimidate slow or long-finned tankmates, so pair them with similarly active species. They accept virtually any food, from flake to micro pellets to small frozen fare, and their constant motion and gentle iridescence make them a lively, low-fuss addition to the top levels of an aquarium.
