African fat-tailed geckos are terrestrial and want a horizontally spacious 40–60 L terrarium with a warm side of 30–32°C provided by an under-tank heater, a cool end near 24°C, and — crucially — a humid hide box filled with damp moss to help shedding. Overall humidity is moderate; the humid hide does the heavy lifting. UVB is optional if you supplement calcium diligently. Feed appropriately sized insects — crickets, roaches, mealworms — dusted with calcium and a vitamin supplement, every other day for youngsters and two to three times a week for adults. A healthy tail is plump; a thin tail signals underfeeding or illness. These geckos are famously docile and among the easiest lizards to handle; move slowly, support the body, and be aware they can drop the tail if grabbed roughly. Watch for metabolic bone disease from calcium shortfall, retained shed around the toes and eyes if the humid hide is neglected, and impaction if kept on loose particulate substrate — a solid or bioactive floor is safest.
