The Nebelung — 'creature of the mist' — is essentially a long-haired Russian Blue, a shimmering silvery-blue cat with green eyes and a soft, drifting elegance. Its personality mirrors the Russian Blue too: quiet, gentle and intensely loyal to a chosen few, reserved and often shy with strangers, and sensitive to noise, upheaval and changes in routine. It bonds deeply and shows quiet, devoted affection, thriving in a calm, stable home where it feels secure rather than in a loud, ever-changing one. The fine, long double coat needs brushing two or three times a week to stay silky and tangle-free, a little more during seasonal sheds. Give the Nebelung a predictable routine, gentle play and patient companionship, and it will slowly reward you with real devotion. Like the Russian Blue, it is generally a healthy, long-lived breed with no dramatic breed-specific disease, but it is food-motivated and gains weight easily, so measured portions and daily play matter. Maintain dental hygiene, provide plenty of fresh water for urinary and kidney health, and keep up annual check-ups.
