The Holland Lop was developed in the Netherlands by Adriann de Cock in the 1950s by crossing French Lops with Netherland Dwarfs, creating the smallest of the lop breeds — an adult weighs just 1.3–1.8 kg. The compact body, flat 'crown' of fur across the head and drooping ears give the breed its teddy-bear look, and well-cared-for Holland Lops commonly live 7–12 years. House them with at least 1–2 square meters of pen or free-roam space plus a hide box; rabbits are crepuscular, most active at dawn and dusk. They litter-train readily, but every cable in reach must be protected — chewing is not optional for rabbits, whose teeth grow continuously. A bonded, neutered partner rabbit is the best enrichment there is. Diet is 80% unlimited grass hay (timothy or orchard), a cup of leafy greens daily and only a tablespoon of pellets per kilogram of body weight; fruit is an occasional treat. Watch for malocclusion (misaligned teeth), ear infections in the folded ears, and GI stasis — a rabbit that stops eating for 12 hours is an emergency.
