The Children's python is native to northern Australia, where it shelters in rocky crevices, termite mounds, and caves, sometimes hunting bats at cave mouths. It is a small python, typically 0.9 to 1.1 meters and under a kilogram, with a long lifespan of 15 to 25 years. Its modest size, hardiness, and calm temperament make it one of the most beginner-friendly pythons available. House a Children's python in a secure 75-liter enclosure with a couple of snug hides and a climbing branch. Provide a warm side of 31-33C, a cool end in the mid 20s, and moderate humidity of 50-60%. Feed appropriately sized frozen-thawed rodents every seven to ten days. Juveniles may be a little jumpy but tame quickly, and adults are typically docile, tolerating regular gentle handling with ease.
