Children's pythons are compact and easy to house in a 40–75 L terrarium with a warm side of 31–33°C, a cool end near 24°C and moderate-to-low humidity around 50%. Provide two hides, some low branches for occasional climbing, aspen or cypress substrate and a water bowl. No UVB is needed for this nocturnal species. Feed a single appropriately sized mouse or small rat every 7–10 days for growing snakes and every 10–14 days for adults. They have a keen feeding response despite their calm nature, so tong-feed and keep meals modest to avoid the obesity that small, sedentary pythons slip into easily. This is one of the gentlest pythons available and tolerates regular, unhurried handling well; support the body and let it explore your hands. Health concerns are minimal — chiefly respiratory infection in a too-cool cage, scale rot on damp substrate, and retained shed if humidity dips too low around shedding time. Well kept, they routinely live 20–30 years.
