Cyriopagopus lividus comes from the humid forests of Myanmar and Thailand, where it lives deep in self-dug burrows. Reaching a 11-13 cm legspan, females live around 12-15 years. This is an Old World species: it lacks urticating hairs but compensates with speed, a defensive attitude, and medically significant venom, so it is strictly a look-don't-touch spider for experienced keepers. Provide a deep enclosure with at least 15-20 cm of moist substrate to allow extensive burrowing, plus a cork slab and water dish. Maintain 24-28C and humidity around 75-80 percent with good ventilation. Cobalt blues spend most of their lives underground, emerging to ambush crickets and roaches, so a shy, rarely seen pet is normal. Never attempt handling; use long tools for maintenance and respect their lightning-fast defensive strikes. The dazzling blue legs are the reward for a hands-off approach.
