The Khao Manee is an ancient Thai breed, the pure-white 'white gem' famed for its jewel-like eyes, which are often odd-coloured — one sparkling blue, one gold. Confident, curious and thoroughly social, it treats strangers as overdue friends, greets visitors at the door, chats in an expressive voice and involves itself in everything the household does. Active and people-oriented, it thrives on attention and interaction and is not a cat that wants to be left alone. Give a Khao Manee plenty of play, climbing space and company. The short, close coat is beautifully easy, needing only an occasional brush to stay gleaming white. The key health point is tied to its all-white coat: white cats, especially those with one or two blue eyes, carry a raised risk of congenital deafness, so a responsible breeder will BAER-test and be open about the results — a deaf cat lives a full, happy life indoors, but you should know. The breed also has a relatively small gene pool. Follow standard care — a good diet, weight management, dental hygiene, fresh water and yearly check-ups.
