The Peterbald is an elegant Russian breed created from Don Sphynx and Oriental Shorthair lines, giving it a slender, graceful body, oval webbed-looking toes that grip toys and hands, and a coat that ranges from completely bald to a fine peach-fuzz 'flock'. In personality it is pure Oriental: intensely social, affectionate and vocal, it shadows its humans everywhere, joins every activity and chats about it constantly, and it strongly dislikes being left alone — a companion cat or a busy home suits it best. Coat care depends on how much hair the cat has. Bald and near-bald Peterbalds need Sphynx-style care — weekly baths to manage skin oils, regular ear cleaning, sun protection near windows and warm spots or sweaters, since they chill easily and must live indoors. From its Oriental heritage the breed can be prone to dental and gum disease, so a good dental routine matters, along with screening for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Keep the skin and ears clean, protect the cat from cold, maintain routine vet and dental care, and give it the constant companionship it needs to thrive.
