The Pixiebob was bred to look like a wild bobcat — muscular, spotted, with a short bobbed tail and, uniquely, permission in its standard for polydactyl (extra-toed) paws — yet it has a thoroughly gentle, domestic heart. Famously dog-like, it is calm, loyal and intelligent, follows its family from room to room like a quiet ranger, learns to walk on a leash, plays fetch and 'talks' in chirps and chortles rather than meows. It bonds deeply and fits well into family life, including with children and other pets. Give a Pixiebob interactive play, training games and companionship to satisfy its clever, engaged mind. The coat, short or long, is easy — a weekly brush keeps it in order, more during seasonal sheds. Generally a robust breed, with the polydactyl trait being harmless, the Pixiebob still benefits from a breeder who screens for the usual concerns and breeds selectively. Follow standard feline care — keep it lean, maintain dental hygiene, provide fresh water and keep up annual heart, kidney and general check-ups.
