Adult boa constrictors need a large, robust enclosure — think 1.8 m long or more — with a basking spot of 31–33°C, an ambient gradient down to 26°C, and humidity around 60%. Use a big water bowl, secure climbing branches and a solid hide at each end. These are strong animals, so latches and glass must be genuinely escape-proof. Feed rats sized to the snake's girth: hatchlings every 7–10 days, growing juveniles every 10–14 days, and adults only every 3–4 weeks. Overfeeding is the number-one health mistake — obese boas develop fatty organs and shortened lives, so keep meals modest and let the body stay muscular, not round. Handle with a second person once the snake passes about 1.5 m; support the body at several points and read its mood before lifting near a shed or after feeding. Common issues are respiratory infections in cool, damp setups, scale rot on wet substrate, and burns from unguarded heat sources. Warmth, ventilation and controlled feeding keep a boa thriving for 25 years or more.
