The Turkish Angora is one of the oldest natural breeds, an elegant, athletic cat with a silky coat and a bright, determined mind. Highly intelligent and social, it involves itself in everything — supervising chores, opening doors and greeting guests — and forms strong bonds, so it wants an interactive household rather than to be left alone all day. It stays playful and agile for life and needs plenty of climbing space and games to stay happy. The fine, single-layer coat has no heavy undercoat, so despite its length it resists matting and a brush once or twice a week keeps it silky. This is an easy-care, adaptable cat that suits active families. One health note is specific to the breed's most famous look: white Angoras with one or two blue eyes have a raised risk of congenital deafness, so a responsible breeder will BAER-test and be open about it — a deaf cat lives a full life indoors, but you should know. Good breeders also screen for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Keep up dental care and kidney monitoring, and provide the interaction this clever cat craves.
