The American Bobtail looks like a little bobcat but behaves like a devoted, easygoing companion. Famous for adaptability, it travels well, settles into busy households and is often used as a therapy cat thanks to its calm, people-loving nature. Though not hyperactive, Bobtails stay playful for life and enjoy interactive games, puzzle toys and a good vantage point to survey their domain. They bond closely with the whole family and dislike long stretches of being left alone, so a companion or an enriched environment helps. Coats come in short and medium lengths; both are shaggy and water-resistant and need brushing once or twice weekly. The breed is generally healthy, but the natural tail mutation means spines and hips deserve attention, so keep an eye on mobility, guard against weight gain and maintain regular dental care.
