Adults typically measure 0.9 to 1.2 meters and can weigh up to 1.4 kilograms, living 15 to 20 years with good care. Their bulletproof constitution and inquisitive personality make them rewarding keepers, though their strong feeding response demands respect at meal times. Provide a secure 75-115 liter enclosure with a warm side of 28-30C and a cool retreat in the low 20s, plus at least two hides. Humidity around 40-50% works well. Because kingsnakes are cannibalistic, always house them individually. Offer a single frozen-thawed rodent every one to two weeks, using tongs to avoid feeding-response bites. They tolerate regular handling once acclimated, becoming calmer with routine interaction over time.
