Native to the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and northeastern Australia, the Eclectus is a medium parrot weighing 350-550 grams with a lifespan of 30-50 years. Known for their calm, gentle temperament and sensitivity, these birds bond deeply and can be excellent talkers, but they are famously particular about diet and stress. House them in a spacious cage of at least 80cm width with room to stretch. Their care hinges on a high-fiber, low-fat diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens; excessive fortified pellets or vitamin oversupplementation can trigger toe-tapping and feather issues unique to the species. Eclectus parrots appreciate a calm household routine and gentle, consistent interaction, becoming anxious or plucking when stressed. Provide daily enrichment, natural foraging, and quiet bonding time, and avoid overhandling, as they generally prefer measured affection over constant cuddling.
