๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Electric Blue Hap (Sciaenochromis fryeri), still widely sold under the old trade name Ahli, is a Lake Malawi open-water predator reaching about 15 to 18 cm. Males colour up to an intense metallic blue with a white forehead blaze; females stay silver-grey with faint bars. In the wild it hunts juvenile mbuna and other small fish along the rock and sand boundary. House a male with three or four females in 350 litres or more at 24-27C, pH 7.8 to 8.6 in hard water, with rock structure at the ends and a long open swimming lane between them. Feed a quality cichlid pellet plus frozen mysis and krill; it is a piscivore and handles protein far better than mbuna, but it still should not be fed mammal meat. The important limit is a mouth-based one rather than a temper-based one: it is a civil tankmate for other haps and peacocks of similar size, and it will simply eat anything small enough to fit, including peacock fry and any nano fish. Choose tankmates by size, not by disposition.
