The Green Terror (Andinoacara rivulatus) comes from Pacific-slope rivers of Ecuador and Peru and reaches about 20 to 25 cm, with large males occasionally more. Adults are covered in metallic blue-green spangles with orange or white fin margins depending on the form, and dominant males develop a pronounced nuchal hump. It is closely related to the blue acara but considerably bigger and much less tolerant. A pair needs 350 litres or more at 22-27C, pH 6.5 to 8.0, with a sand bed, large stones, wood and open swimming space. Feed quality cichlid pellets, frozen krill, mysis and earthworm foods. This species earns its name during breeding: a settled pair will claim most of a normal tank and pursue anything that enters, and single males kept alone often redirect that pressure onto whatever else is present. It suits a large tank with equally robust cichlids, an experienced keeper willing to rearrange decor to reset territories, and a plan for separating a pair if the aggression escalates. It is not a beginner fish despite being sold as one.
