Native to the arid regions of southwestern Africa, the Peach-Faced Lovebird is a tiny parrot weighing just 45-60 grams with a lifespan of 10-20 years. These vibrant little birds are energetic and affectionate, and while the romantic notion that they must be kept in pairs is a myth, a lone bird needs abundant daily human interaction to stay tame and content. House them in a cage at least 45cm wide with closely spaced bars, plenty of toys, and shreddable materials they love to tuck into their feathers. Feed a varied diet of formulated pellets, vegetables, greens, and sprouted seeds rather than seed alone. Lovebirds are surprisingly bold and can be nippy or territorial, especially when hormonal, so consistent gentle handling matters. They are active, curious, and moderately noisy with chattering calls, and they thrive with daily out-of-cage exercise and foraging enrichment.
