The Puli is a small, agile herding dog with a huge personality: lively, smart and devoted, with an alert, sometimes suspicious attitude toward strangers that makes it a natural watchdog. Pulik bond intensely with their families and love to be involved in everything. They are famously quick and clever, with an independent streak that reflects generations of making split-second herding decisions. Despite their size, these are athletic dogs that need daily exercise and mental challenge — brisk walks, active play and dog sports keep them balanced and happy. They excel at agility and obedience and enjoy learning, though their intelligence can tip into mischief if they are bored. Early socialization and positive, engaging training bring out their best. The signature corded coat is unique: it does not need brushing, but the cords must be separated by hand as they form and kept clean and thoroughly dry, which is time-consuming. The breed is generally hardy and long-lived, with hip dysplasia, patellar luxation and eye conditions among the concerns. Active and involved, the Puli is a joyful, unforgettable companion.
