๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Snakeskin Gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis) comes from the Mekong basin and reaches about 20 to 25 cm, the largest of the Trichopodus gouramis. Its pattern is a set of faint oblique bars over an olive body with a dark line running from the snout to the tail. It is farmed as a food fish across South East Asia, which is why it is both inexpensive and very hardy. A group needs 250 litres or more at 24-30C, pH 6.0 to 7.5, with dense planting at the sides, floating cover, calm flow and a warm air space above the water. Feed a quality flake or pellet with vegetable content plus frozen bloodworm, daphnia and brine shrimp. Its temperament is the surprise: despite being the biggest of the group it is the least territorial, tolerating its own kind and other fish far better than a three spot does, and it can be kept in groups. Its size is the only real constraint, and it makes an excellent centrepiece for a large planted community with barbs, loaches and medium catfish.
