These birds are perpetual-motion machines, endlessly playful, acrobatic, and comical, but their boundless energy and stubborn streak make them a lively handful that needs constant enrichment. Provide a sturdy cage of at least 60cm width packed with toys, ladders, ropes, and foraging challenges, since a bored caique becomes destructive or nippy. Feed formulated pellets with vegetables, greens, and modest fruit, moderating fatty foods. Caiques love to bathe, wrestle, and play on their backs, and they require several hours of active daily interaction.
