The Bull Terrier, with its unmistakable egg-shaped head, is a muscular, comical, exuberant clown — often described as a perpetual toddler in a muscle suit: playful, mischievous, endlessly energetic and utterly devoted to its family. It is affectionate and fun but also strong, stubborn and boisterous, so it needs early socialisation, consistent positive training and plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation to channel its energy; a bored Bull Terrier becomes destructive and can develop compulsive behaviours like obsessive tail-chasing. It bonds intensely and dislikes being left alone. The short coat is very easy, needing only a weekly brush, though it sheds and the skin can be sensitive. Health-wise, buy from a breeder who does the breed's health screening: Bull Terriers are prone to inherited kidney disease (a heart-and-kidney check is important), congenital deafness (BAER-tested in puppies, especially whites), heart disease, patellar luxation and skin allergies. Give a Bull Terrier firm, kind training, lots of exercise, company and a health-screened start, and this hilarious muscle-clown will be a devoted, entertaining companion for twelve to thirteen years.
