Giant day geckos are diurnal, arboreal and sun-loving, so give them a tall, well-planted terrarium with smooth-leaved plants and bamboo or cork to climb. They genuinely need UVB lighting plus a basking gradient of 26–30°C, and humidity of 60–80% maintained by misting once or twice a day with good airflow. Diet is a mix of small dusted insects — crickets and fruit flies — two or three times a week, together with a prepared fruit-nectar gecko diet or mashed ripe fruit that they lap eagerly. Calcium and vitamin dusting is essential given how much UVB-driven metabolism they run. These geckos have extremely delicate skin that tears if grabbed, so they are strictly a hands-off, observation species; enjoy their bold daytime activity and vivid colour. The main health risks are metabolic bone disease from insufficient UVB or calcium, respiratory infection in stale humid air, and shedding trouble if the enclosure dries out. Consistent light, warmth and misting keep them brilliant.
