The brown anole is native to Cuba and the Bahamas and has become widely established across Florida and the Gulf Coast, often displacing green anoles from lower perches. It reaches 13-21 cm including tail and lives about 3-6 years. More terrestrial and even bolder than the green anole, it favors the ground, low shrubs, and fence lines, flashing a striking orange-and-yellow dewlap. Keep a small group in a planted 45x45x60 cm terrarium with branches, ground cover, and basking perches, offering both climbing and floor space. Provide a basking spot of 29-33 C, a good UVB source, and 60-70% humidity through daily misting for drinking droplets. Feed small gut-loaded insects such as crickets, fruit flies, and roaches, dusted with calcium and vitamins. Fast and skittish, brown anoles are an active, entertaining display species rather than a handling pet.
