Native to the grasslands, marshes, and jungles of Southeast Asia, the Burmese python is a true giant, commonly reaching 3.7 to 5.5 meters and weighing 20 to 90 kilograms, with a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. Despite their bulk they are often surprisingly gentle and food-motivated, which is precisely why they must never be underestimated or handled alone when large. Adults need a large, purpose-built, escape-proof enclosure with heavy-duty heating providing a warm side of 30-32C, a cool end in the mid 20s, and humidity of 50-70%. Feed appropriately sized frozen-thawed rabbits or poultry every two to four weeks, avoiding the obesity these hearty eaters are prone to. Always have multiple experienced adults present for handling large individuals. This impressive python suits only keepers prepared for its lifelong scale and cost.
