The electric blue gecko, Lygodactylus williamsi, is a dwarf day gecko found only in a tiny patch of Tanzania's Kimboza Forest, where habitat loss and collection have left it critically endangered. It measures just 7-9 cm and lives around 8-10 years, with mature males an electric blue and females bronze-green. Responsible keepers prioritize captive-bred animals to support the species. Keep a pair or trio in a tall, planted 30x30x45 cm bioactive terrarium built around Pandanus or similar plants, with vertical stems for perching and egg-laying. Provide a basking spot of 28-30 C and, since it is a diurnal basker, a good UVB source for D3 and bone health. Maintain 60-80% humidity with daily misting and drying cycles. Feed tiny gut-loaded insects such as fruit flies and micro-crickets dusted with calcium, plus a little nectar or fruit diet. This delicate species is strictly for observation, not handling.
