It is a large pig, with adults reaching 270-320 kg, living 10-15 years, and prized for docility, hardiness, and excellent mothering ability. Though calm and easy to handle, these are substantial animals needing ample space, strong fencing, and a sturdy, dry shelter. They forage well on pasture and do best with a diet of grass, vegetables, and a balanced pig ration, avoiding overfeeding that leads to obesity and joint strain. Provide shade and a wallow to protect their fair, spotted skin from sunburn, plus constant fresh water.
