Native to the mountain forests of Central and South America, the Lineolated Parakeet is a tiny parrot weighing 40-55 grams with a lifespan of 10-15 years. Uniquely mellow and quiet for a parrot, the 'linnie' is gentle, easygoing, and well-suited to apartments, moving with a deliberate, almost cautious gait rather than frantic energy. House them in a cage at least 45cm wide with horizontal bars for climbing and a range of perches and toys. Feed formulated pellets supplemented with vegetables, greens, and sprouted seeds, watching portions since they can gain weight. Lineolated Parakeets are peaceful and can often be kept in compatible pairs or small groups, though a single hand-raised bird bonds closely with its owner. They enjoy gentle handling, quiet company, and light foraging enrichment, and their soft, pleasant chatter makes them one of the most noise-friendly companion parrots available.
