The Thai preserves the original, more rounded look of the Siamese as it existed before selective breeding produced the modern ultra-slender show cat. Known in Thailand as the Wichienmaat, it keeps the classic pointed coat, blue eyes and famously vocal, people-loving personality. Highly intelligent and social, Thais bond intensely and need engagement — they will hold conversations, learn tricks, open doors and insist on being part of everything you do. Puzzle toys, interactive play and, ideally, another pet for company help satisfy that busy mind and prevent loneliness. The short, fine coat is wash-and-go with a weekly brush. Like other Siamese-derived cats, Thais can be prone to dental disease, respiratory sensitivity, kidney problems and heart disease, so commit to annual veterinary exams, attentive dental care and a good-quality diet throughout their long lives.
