๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) is a tiny New World monkey from the forests of northeastern Brazil, weighing just 250-350 grams and living twelve to sixteen years. They are intensely social troop animals that communicate through chirps and trills, and must never be kept alone; isolation causes severe psychological distress and self-harm. Even in pairs they are demanding, lifelong dependents. House them in a very large, warm indoor-outdoor enclosure with climbing branches, nest boxes, UVB lighting, and constant enrichment. Their specialized diet needs gum arabic, insects, fruit, a marmoset-formulated food, and vitamin D3 and calcium to prevent marmoset wasting syndrome and metabolic bone disease. They scent-mark and cannot be housebroken. Primate ownership is banned or tightly licensed in most US states, the UK, and many countries, and they can transmit and contract human diseases, making them a legally and ethically serious commitment reserved for expert keepers.
