๐ Care guide
The English Foxhound is the classic pack hound of the traditional English hunt, bred to run for hours in a large group following a scent โ and that pack heritage shapes everything about it. Friendly, sociable, gentle and hardy, it gets on wonderfully with people and especially with other dogs, but it is fundamentally a group animal that craves canine company and routine and does not cope well as a solitary house pet, becoming bored, vocal and destructive. It has enormous stamina and needs a great deal of daily exercise, a securely fenced yard and on-lead walks (its powerful nose and prey drive make recall unreliable), plus patient, positive, food-motivated training. The short coat is very easy, needing only a weekly brush, with regular cleaning of the drop ears. Health-wise the English Foxhound is a hardy, functional breed with relatively few problems, but buy from a reputable breeder and be aware of hip dysplasia, ear infections, epilepsy and a hereditary kidney condition (renal disease) in some lines. Give an English Foxhound serious daily exercise, companionship (ideally another dog), secure containment and a settled routine, keep the ears clean, and this cheerful, sociable pack hound will be a devoted companion for ten to thirteen years.
