๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Katahdin was developed in Maine in the mid-20th century, named for Mount Katahdin, by crossing hair sheep with wool breeds to create a hardy, shearing-free meat animal. These medium sheep weigh 55-100 kg, live 10-14 years, and are especially noted for their natural resistance to internal parasites and their smooth shedding coats. Katahdins are docile, easy to handle, and well suited to rotational grazing on grass with minimal grain. They need a flock for companionship, sound fencing, and a simple shelter from wind and wet. Provide sheep-safe minerals free of added copper and clean water at all times. Because they shed, no shearing is required, but keepers should still trim hooves, monitor for foot rot, and practice targeted deworming. Their hardiness and calm temperament make Katahdins excellent for beginning shepherds.
