๐ Care guide
The Neon Goby is a Caribbean and western Atlantic native reaching only 5 cm, jet black with dazzling neon-blue lateral stripes. Unlike many cleaners it is readily captive-bred, hardy, and accepts prepared foods easily, making it a superb beginner reef fish that also grooms parasites off larger tankmates. Keep in a 40-litre (10-gallon) or larger reef tank at 24-26C, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4. It appreciates rockwork perches and small caves and will often adopt a cleaning station. Feed frequent small portions of mysis, cyclops, and fine pellets. Peaceful and reef-safe, it does well singly, in pairs, or in small groups. Its short natural lifespan is normal, and bonded pairs may even spawn in the aquarium.
