๐ Care guide
The Netherland Dwarf was developed in the Netherlands in the early twentieth century and is among the tiniest domestic rabbits, weighing just 0.5-1.1 kg. Despite its baby-faced appearance it can live seven to ten years or more. Bred down from small wild-type rabbits, the breed is energetic and sometimes feisty, though individuals raised with gentle handling become affectionate and interactive. Rabbits are social and often happiest in neutered bonded pairs, housed in a large pen or rabbit-proofed room, never a tiny hutch, with daily exercise time to run and binky. Their short, dense coat needs only occasional brushing, increasing during moults. Diet is critical: unlimited grass hay forms the bulk, supplemented with leafy greens and a small measured portion of pellets, with sugary treats limited to protect teeth and gut. Because of their small heads they are prone to dental malocclusion, so provide constant hay and chews and monitor eating and droppings closely.
