๐ Care guide
The English Lop is the oldest of the fancy lop breeds, developed in 19th-century England and famous for the longest ears of any rabbit โ routinely over 55 cm across and, in record holders, well past 70 cm. A large rabbit at 4.5-5.5 kg, it typically lives 5-7 years, the shorter span common to bigger breeds. Those spectacular ears are also the breed's main care challenge: they trail on the ground, so the rabbit can step on or catch them, and they are prone to injury, wax build-up and infection. Housing must have smooth, snag-free flooring, and the ears need regular gentle checks. Temperamentally English Lops are calm, tolerant and affectionate, often described as one of the most laid-back breeds. Feed the standard rabbit diet โ around 80% unlimited grass hay, a daily portion of leafy greens, and only a small measured amount of pellets, with fruit as a rare treat. Provide a large pen or free-roam space with a hide, litter box and chew-safe surroundings, and ideally a bonded, neutered partner. Watch the ears, the continuously growing teeth, and weight, and treat any rabbit that stops eating for 12 hours as an emergency.
