๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Spotted Blue-Eye (Pseudomugil gertrudae) comes from swamps, lagoons and slow blackwater creeks in northern Australia and southern New Guinea and reaches only about 3 to 3.5 cm. It is nearly transparent gold with rows of black spots across the fins and body, and the bright blue eye that names the genus. Males display with fins fully erected, particularly in morning light. A group of ten or more suits a planted tank from 40 litres at 24-30C with a pH of 5.5 to 7.5 and soft, often tannin-stained water, gentle flow and a covered top. Feed micro-foods only: powdered fry food, live baby brine, microworms, cyclops and finely crushed flake, offered two or three times daily. It is a genuinely delicate species with a natural lifespan of only two to three years, so it needs stable, warm, clean water and quiet tankmates. It is best kept in a dedicated nano tank or with shrimp, where nothing outcompetes it for food.
