The Yellow Watchman Goby comes from the western Pacific and grows to about 9-10 cm. Bright yellow and dotted with pale blue speckles, it is a hardy, peaceful burrow-dweller famous for its symbiotic relationship with pistol (snapping) shrimp, which share and maintain a sandy den. Provide a 75-litre or larger reef tank with a deep sand bed and rubble for burrowing, at 24-26C, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4. A tight lid is important, as they can jump. Feed mysis, enriched brine, and small marine pellets. It is fully reef-safe and non-aggressive except toward other bottom-dwelling gobies. Pairing it with a tiger or randall's pistol shrimp creates one of the reef's most engaging behavioral displays.
