The Burmilla was a happy accident — an unplanned cross between a Burmese and a Chinchilla Persian — and it inherited the best of both: a sparkling silver, shaded coat with dark 'natural eyeliner' around the eyes, plus a beautifully balanced temperament. It has the Burmese's playful, affectionate sociability tempered by the Persian's calm, so it enjoys kittenish mischief and interactive games yet is also happy to settle for a quiet evening. Sweet-natured and easygoing, it is neither clingy nor aloof, making it an adaptable companion for many households, including those with children and other pets. The coat, short or semi-long, is fairly easy — a brush once or twice a week keeps it silky and prevents tangles. Give the Burmilla a mix of play and company, and it fits comfortably into daily life. From its Persian side, the most important health concern is polycystic kidney disease (PKD), which has a DNA test, so buy only from a breeder who screens for it; the breed can also be prone to allergies and skin sensitivities. Maintain a good dental routine, keep the cat at a healthy weight, provide fresh water, and monitor kidney health as it ages.
