The knight anole is the largest member of the anole family, native to Cuba and introduced to southern Florida, reaching 33-50 cm including its long tail and living 8-12 years. Bright green with yellow shoulder and eye stripes, it is a canopy-dwelling species that defends its territory boldly and will gape, bite, and puff up when challenged, so it is more of a look-don't-touch lizard. House a single knight anole in a tall, planted 60x45x90 cm terrarium with sturdy branches, dense foliage, and plenty of vertical space. Provide a basking spot of 30-34 C, a strong UVB source, and 60-80% humidity via daily misting for drinking droplets. Feed larger gut-loaded insects such as crickets, roaches, and locusts, with the occasional snail or pinky for adults, all dusted with calcium. Given its size and territorial nature, it is best appreciated as an impressive display animal rather than handled.
