The Serengeti was created in the 1990s by crossing Bengals with Oriental Shorthairs to mimic the look of a serval without any wild ancestry. The result is a tall, elegant, spotted cat with a bold, confident and highly social temperament. These are active, athletic cats that love to climb, jump and interact. They crave attention, greet visitors fearlessly and stay busy, so tall perches, interactive toys, puzzle feeders and daily play are important; many enjoy fetch and harness walks. A companion helps when the house is empty. The short, sleek coat is effortless — a weekly brush and routine nail trims are all it takes. Serengetis are generally healthy but, given the Bengal and Oriental heritage, responsible screening for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is wise, along with weight management and regular dental care.
