The Snowshoe blends Siamese and American Shorthair into a striking blue-eyed, white-booted cat with a warm, take-charge personality. Social, affectionate and moderately talkative — chattier than a Shorthair but softer-voiced than a Siamese — it appoints itself household manager, dislikes closed doors on principle, is often fascinated by water, and bonds intensely with its chosen person. That devotion means it does not like being left alone for long and thrives on company and involvement. Give a Snowshoe interactive play, puzzle toys, high perches and ideally a companion, and it rewards you with loyal, engaging company. The short, close coat is very low-maintenance, needing only an occasional brush. Generally a healthy breed, it can inherit a few Siamese traits — some cosmetic (a kinked tail or crossed eyes) and some to watch, like dental disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Buy from a breeder who screens, keep the cat lean and mentally busy, maintain good dental care, and provide plenty of water for urinary and kidney health.
