Standing's day gecko is a large Phelsuma from the dry southwestern forests of Madagascar, reaching 20-27 cm and living 10-15 years. Its base color shifts from grayish to turquoise-blue with striking dark reticulated markings, and unlike many rainforest day geckos it tolerates a somewhat drier, more seasonal environment. It is a diurnal, arboreal basker with a bold presence. House one or a proven pair in a tall, planted 45x45x60 cm terrarium with sturdy bamboo and branches for climbing, basking, and egg-laying. Provide a basking spot of 30-33 C and a strong UVB source, essential for this daytime basker's bone health. Maintain moderate humidity of 50-70% with daily misting and thorough drying between cycles. Feed gut-loaded insects such as crickets and roaches dusted with calcium, plus a nectar or fruit-based day-gecko diet. Its skin is delicate, so it is best treated as a hands-off display species.
