A Phelsuma species native to Madagascar and widely established in Hawaii, the gold dust day gecko reaches 10-15 cm and lives 8-12 years. Unlike most geckos it is active in daylight, basking and foraging among leaves, which makes its brilliant colors and behavior easy to enjoy. Its skin is delicate and tears easily, so it is a hands-off animal. Keep one or a proven pair in a tall, planted 30x30x45 cm bioactive terrarium with bamboo and broad-leaved plants for climbing and egg-laying. Provide a basking spot of 28-30 C and, crucially, a good UVB source since this diurnal basker needs it for D3 and bone health. Maintain 60-80% humidity with daily misting and drying cycles. Feed small dusted insects like fruit flies and micro-crickets plus a nectar or fruit-based day-gecko diet. Avoid handling.
