The Asian Shorthair is a British-developed breed built on the Burmese in body and personality but shown in a broad palette of colours and patterns, from solids to smokes and tabbies. It shares the Burmese love of people: an affectionate, talkative, thoroughly involved companion. These cats are lively, curious and clever, keen on interactive play, climbing and helping with whatever you are doing. They bond deeply and prefer not to be left alone for long, so plenty of attention, engaging toys, or a second cat for company keeps them happy and confident. The short, glossy coat is simple to care for, needing only a weekly brush and routine nail and dental attention. As a Burmese-derived breed the Asian Shorthair can carry a risk of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, so responsible screening, along with weight and kidney monitoring, supports a long and healthy life.
