The Brazilian rainbow boa inhabits humid rainforests and floodplains of the Amazon basin, particularly in Brazil. It is a moderately sized boa, typically 1.5 to 2 meters and 1 to 2.5 kilograms, with a lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The prismatic sheen that gives it its name comes from microscopic ridges on its scales, most dazzling in juveniles and freshly shed adults. Because it hails from humid forests, this boa demands consistently high humidity of 75-90% with good ventilation to prevent scale rot, alongside a warm side around 28-30C and a cooler end in the mid 20s. Provide a secure enclosure of at least 115 liters with a large water dish, humid hide, and low branches. Feed frozen-thawed rodents every ten to fourteen days. Juveniles can be nippy but usually calm with age; consistent humidity management is the main husbandry challenge.
